MIND OF CHRIST - Introduction

1.Introduction.

Christianity is passing through a very perilous period. And almost a great number of believers are moving forward with fear and unbelief. A tendency contrary to the Scriptures is evident everywhere. Many who have made virtuous beginnings have faded and withered, but they are painfully admitting that they are in a state of decline. They are simply moving forward because they have no other choice. It is an undeniable reality that a dark shadow has settled upon us. Amid all the darkness, the existence of a remnant has never ceased.

There have been dark times. Even in that situation, God’s people, who were still small in number, have held fast to their most holy faith. There is abundant evidence of this in Scripture and also in history. The stirring words, “we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,” remind us that we are not alone in our journey of faith.

In these last days, God has given us an opportunity to reveal what true Christian living is. Nothing will serve us better than knowing and cultivating the mind of Christ. When we learn to understand that, a great change will begin to take place in us. By knowing the mind of Christ, we will know that true Christianity is the outward reflection of the inner changes taking place within us and that it is the cause of the glory of God’s name. Our heavenly Father desires nothing less than for us to reflect the mind of His Son.

The Christian life that Scripture reveals is not just about outward things like your outward behavior, religious accomplishments, or moral discipline. It is about a deep, life-changing experience—an inner transformation that begins in the soul and flows into every area of life. In 1 Corinthians 2:16, God’s Word points out a wonderful truth: “But we have the mind of Christ” This scripture is not to be seen as a mere symbolic or isolated idea; it is a great spiritual experience that is possible through our union with Christ. This is the reality, but many followers of Christ try to live without fully understanding or experiencing this truth. While many focus on outward appearances and external actions, God desires an inward transformation. Too often, people fail to recognize that the essence of the Christian life is not external conformity but inner renewal. It is through this inward transformation that believers develop the mind of Christ, walk in His ways, and are continually changed into His likeness.

To know the “mind of Christ” is to understand the truth and essence of the Christian life. Only then will you truly understand what it is. Again, this is not just a spiritual concept. It is an experience that radically changes the believer’s life. It means thinking as Christ thinks, seeing every situation in life from the perspective that He sees it, and growing to respond to challenges, people, and events the way He responds to them. It is not about losing our individuality, but about aligning our inner world—our perspectives, attitudes, and insights—with the heart and will of Jesus Christ. The mind of Christ reveals not only what we do, but also why we do it. What the mind of Christ achieves is not just a change in the outward manifestations of our lives, but a divine transformation that takes place deep within our hearts.

At creation, man was made in the image of God, reflecting His nature and character. Adam did not struggle with confusion, fear, or sinful thoughts; his mind was clear, pure, and fully united with divine truth. However, with the fall of the human race, something very important was broken. Sin did not just affect actions—it tarnished the mind. Man’s thinking became darkened and separated from the life of God (Ephesians 4:17-18).

As a result, the natural human mind tends to operate independently of God. It is driven by selfish interests, pride, fear, and worldly values. That is why God’s Word says that the “carnal mind” is enmity against God (Romans 8:7). Therefore, without divine intervention, the human mind cannot fully understand spiritual truths or be in harmony with God’s will.

This is where the gospel gives hope. God has provided a way through Jesus Christ not only to be forgiven of sin, but also to restore and revitalize the human mind. Salvation is not just about avoiding judgment; it is about radical change. When a person is born again, they receive a new divine nature. They receive a new, purified heart. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in them, and through the help of the Holy Spirit they gain access to the mind of Christ.

However, having and walking in the mind of Christ is not always the same. Every believer has been given these new dimensions (measures), but they need to be developed, renewed, and cultivated. Romans 12:2 says, “but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” The Christian journey is an ongoing process of learning to think differently—replacing old attitudes with the truth guided by God’s Word and the Holy Spirit.

To understand the mind of Christ, we must understand that the way of Christ is not limited to external imitation, but to a deep transformation of the heart. Many see the Christian life as a matter of behavior—concerned only with what to do and what not to do. But Jesus is speaking of a much deeper truth: the true state of the mind and heart. Actions are born from thoughts, and beliefs shape behaviors. True change, then, begins from within.

The most critical battlefield in the life of a believer is the mind. It is where decisions are made, where faith or doubt takes root, where truth or deception is accepted. The enemy understands this and often tries to prevent believers from experiencing true freedom through lies, confusion, fear, and wrong thinking. But one thing God’s people need to know. God has provided everything they need to live victoriously. Through His Word and Spirit, believers can overcome failures and live with clarity and purpose.

The mind of Christ is not merely intellectual knowledge; it is a spiritual attitude. It includes humility, submission, love, holiness, and complete dependence on the Father. When we look at the life of Jesus, we see a mind that was always in harmony with the will of God. He was not controlled by circumstances, opinions, or emotions. On the contrary, he moved forward with clarity, purpose, and firm trust in the Father. His thoughts were pure, his choices were wise, and his responses were filled with grace and truth.

Developing the mind of Christ is essential to spiritual maturity. Otherwise, believers may remain unstable, worldly, and out of harmony with their lifestyle. But when the mind is renewed, stability increases. Greater peace, clearer direction, and stronger faith are available. Life is no longer determined by desires or external pressures, but by a deep inner alignment with God.

This is especially true in today’s world, where people are constantly bombarded with information, opinions, and conflicting values. The culture around us tries to shape our thinking in ways that are contrary to God’s values. Without conscious renewal, thoughts that are not in harmony with Christ can easily enter our minds. Therefore, understanding and cultivating the mind of Christ is not something to be despised—it is essential to living a successful Christian life.

As we embark on this journey of discovering the mind of Christ, we must approach it with sincerity and humility. This is not just a theory; it is a truth to be experienced. God wants not only to enlighten our minds, but also to enliven them. He invites us into a deeper relationship where our thoughts, desires, and perspectives are shaped by His presence. In the coming chapters, we will begin to understand what the mind of Christ really is, how it is formed in the believer, and how it manifests itself in daily life. We will examine the role of the Holy Spirit, the power of God’s Word, and the practical steps needed to renew our minds. We will examine the trials and battles that arise in the mind and how to overcome them.

Ultimately, we will realize that it is not only about understanding the mind of Christ, but also about living it. When a believer begins to think like Christ, everything changes—relationships, decisions, responses, purpose. Life becomes more aligned with God’s will, and the believer begins to reflect Christ more clearly to the world. Fear will disappear. Holiness will be manifested. Christ will begin to be reflected.

Transformation begins when we move beyond simply knowing Christ to embracing and reflecting His way of thinking.  (1)
